What’s the verdict?

If you’re looking for a brainless way to spend an hour and a half, Don’t Look Up is the movie for you. The plot is paper-thin, the acting is wooden, and the jokes fall flat more often than not. However, if you’re in the mood for a silly, lightweight comedy, this one might just fit the bill.

The film follows two astronomers (played by Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio) who discover that a comet is on course to collide with Earth in six months’ time. As they race to warn the world of the impending disaster, they face a series of increasingly absurd obstacles, including skeptical government officials, hostile journalists, and hordes of angry celebrities.

The movie is wonderfully acted, written, and directed. The special effects are top-notch, and the suspense is palpable. It’s a must-see for fans of disaster movies.

The bad

There are some definite problems with this movie. First of all, the plot is implausible and full of holes. The acting is wooden and the dialogue is often cheesy. The special effects are laughably bad, and the film’s overall tone is one of unintentionally hilarious campiness.

The performances

The performances are the best thing about “Don’t Look Up.”DiCaprio is always watchable, even when he’s sleepwalking through a role (see: “The Revenant”), and he’s clearly having fun here. He chews the scenery with glee, and it’s a blast to watch. same goes for Lawrence, who is often very good in dramatic roles but really shines in comedies. She has great timing and delivery, and she knows how to play off of DiCaprio’s energy. The two have great chemistry together.

The direction

I’ll admit that I was a bit apprehensive about watching “Don’t Look Up”, given that it’s a bit of a departure from director Adam McKay’s usual fare. I’m glad to say that my fears were unfounded, as McKay has delivered a sharp, funny and ultimately very entertaining film.

The music

One of the best things about this film is the music. The original songs are fantastic, and they really help set the tone of the film. The soundtrack is also excellent, and it features a lot of great artists.
